Bamboo SG (2021)
Bamboo SG is a custom typeface created based on Classique Saigon. The first version is an English alphabet (uppercase only) and a type specimen website on Figma. The English version later expanded to lowercase and adapted to the Vietnamese alphabet taking inspiration from the Vietnamese architecture.
Deliveries: english/vietnamese uppercase and lowercase alphabet, type specimen website.
Design prompt: create a new typeface by adding something about myself to an existing typeface of choice.

initial alphabet for English versionThe typeface has a bamboo-like structure combined with the shape of a bamboo leaf for the letters “G” and “Q.”
typeface system (Vietnamese version)The Vietnamese alphabet contains 29 letters, including seven letters using four diacritics. It uses the Latin script based on Romance languages. In addition, the language has five additional diacritics to designate tone. Most of the elements used to build the typeface repeat to create a cohesive alphabet.
